As part of the revitalization of Chattanooga's Patten Parkway, this expressive shade sculpture embodies principles of lightness and expressed structure. The thin gauge, marine-grade stainless steel panels act as a structural skin with no supporting interior framework. Structural stiffness is developed through the principle of virtual depth, and continuity is developed with discontinuous stiffener plates arranged in an alternating pattern inspired by Fuller's concept of tensegrity.
